What's the one common theme that seems to
run throughout when we either need some help urgently
or are at our wits end? (and I know a lot of you have
experienced this)
Being passed from pillar to post... Press option 2 for
this, then select option 7 for that and in the end, we
end up back where we began!!! Oh, and to REALLY RUB IT
IN, we are dealing with Foreign Support Desks where English
is their second (or third) language.
I can already imagine the expressions on almost everyones
face that is reading this.... Blood begining to boil eh
;-)
I can understand if you have doubts as let's face it,
the company I am suggesting here are based in the USA
and I would much rather deal with people over here
than have to call abroad..
My own company being based in the UK used to run our
systems on UK servers and when things went wrong, we
would call support and the calls were costing us silly
money.
Our web host previous to them had their helpdesks based
overseas where English was not their first language. Now
I don't know if any of you have ever had any dealings
with this sort of system but I'm telling you, the
LAST thing you want when you are stressed and having issues
with your system is to deal with folk that can't fully
understand you and you are having to explain things time
and time again... Talk about getting off the
phone stressed and a few £'s lighter, (and I am
not talking about weight here ;-)
This is where we decided that enough was enough
and started moving our site over to a more reliable company
and for them to look after us.
Do you know that if I was to show you our statistics
on how often our previous suppliers systems were down,
you would probably laugh. Oh, and yes, though I was dealing
with a UK helpdesk, the swines were charging .50p a minute
for support.

I added up the hours to costing over the year that
I called my previous web host, I would have been
able to pay for re-education, drive down there and
fix it myself... My
personal rant.

Ok, here's the beauty
of it, or, Magic Bullet if you will, on why we switched

1, We got 24/7 support by either telephone or by their
live online support system.
2, If we wanted to speak to someone over the phone, costs
about half a pence per minute to call via phone or free
via their online support system
3, UNLIMITED
BANDWIDTH ON ALL PACKAGES... Yeah, I know, whats
with that!!!
4, UNLIMITED DISK SPACE
5, UNLIMITED DOMAIN FORWARDING
etc etc etc..... ;-)

we pay monthly, though it could cost us $7.95 per month
if we paid a few years upfront and we get;
Unlimited Domains / Unlimited Disk Space / Unlimited
Bandwidth, all for just $9.95 per month. - (by the way,
don't worry that the pricing is in US Dollars as they
will do all the conversions for you and as you know, the
dollar is less than the pound.... Wehaaaayy!)
Still Not convinced....
Would it help to know that Hostgator will also help
you move your current site over to them and also (here's
the best bit) they offer

if you are not happy with them... They only offer this
because they know that their service is of a high standard
and you are not going to want to leave.
My personal recommendation is to give them a try and
see what you think ;)

Of course, I am all for supporting companies over here
and we already pay a little more for our broadband provider

One last thing, though rather important.... Hosgator
HAVE NEVER had system time-outs on me to date, though
we have called them a few times with daft questions just
to see if they answer immediately... AND THEY DID :-)
